The Presidential Alliance of Municipal Authorities for Health and Development (APAS) convened its Second Summit (II) at ZL World, Cristo Rei, Timor-Leste.
This event marked an important gathering for the Alliance of Municipal Authority Presidents across Timor-Leste, focusing on advancing health and development at the municipal level. The key objectives of the summit were:
- Review progress achieved since the previous APAS meeting and discuss existing challenges.
- Strengthen local leadership through the exchange of experiences and best practices.
- Reinforce commitment to the new structure outlined in the APAS Declaration and its leadership framework.
- Develop an action plan for implementing tobacco control, preventing non-communicable diseases, and strengthening tuberculosis (TB) strategies at the municipal level.
The event was attended by high-level representatives, including the Secretary of the RAEOA Authority, Presidents of Municipal Authorities from Lautem, Viqueque, Bobonaro, Ermera, Ainaro, Liquiçá, and Manufahi, as well as deputy president Aileu, the Atauro Special Administrative Authority, the Asia Pacific Mayor Alliance Secretariat, Vital Strategies, WHO, MoH and others relevant partners.
The event was jointly organized by the Ermera Municipal Administration, the Ministry of Health, the Asia Pacific Cities Alliance for Health and Development (APCAT), the National Alliance for Tobacco Control Timor-Leste (ANCT-TL), and Vital Strategies.
