Workshop ReinFórces Implementation of Tobacco Control Law in Ermera Municipality.

Ermera, 13th October 2025 — President’s Alliance For Health and Development (APAS), Ermera Municipal Authority, Ministry of Health (Municipal Level), in collaboration with the National Alliance for Tobacco Control – Timor-Leste (ANCT-TL), organized a workshop to reinforce the implementation of the Ermera Municipal Circular No. 01/30, dated July 30, 2025, aligned with the Decree Law No. 14/2016 on the Tobacco Control Regime.

During the opening remarks, Ms. Paulina do Rosário Lemos, Secretary of the Ermera Municipal Administration, emphasized that the workshop served as a Follow-up platform for implementing entities to consolidate efforts and share strategies for the effective enforcement of the national tobacco control law.

In his presentation, Mr. Sancho Fernandes, Director of ANCT and Head of the APAS Secretariat, stated that the main objective of the meeting was to strengthen the application of Circular No. 01/30 July 2025 and accelerate the implementation of the Tobacco Control Regime in Ermera Municipality, by Decree Law No. 14/2016.

Following the workshop, participating institutions joined efforts on the ground to install "No Smoking" signs and distribute the Municipal Circular in various public places, including shops, restaurants, government buildings, schools, and public transportation facilities throughout Ermera.

The workshop brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including the Directors of Municipal Education and Health Services, Director of DNTT, Director of MCI, Coordinator of SERVE.IP, Commander of PNTL Ermera, Chief of Road Traffic, Head of Criminal Investigations, Market Manager, Post Administrators, Health Center Chiefs, and other relevant ministry representatives.

This initiative reflects a growing commitment at the municipal level to promote public health through strong regulatory enforcement and cross-sector collaborate
